Who we are

Most contractors pick a lane. We came up the other way.

A lot of companies do asphalt roofs, or they do kitchens. If you need both, you hire twice and hope the two crews talk to each other. We do the roof and we do the room underneath it, which means one person is accountable when the two have to meet.

Metal and slate are what we are known for, and they are the two roofing materials that punish a shortcut hardest. A standing seam panel telegraphs a bad measurement down its whole length. A slate repair either matches or it looks like a patch forever. Working to that standard every day is what sets the bar for the trim in your hallway, the deck off the back, and the barn you have been meaning to put up for three years.

Our service area is wide on purpose. Metal and slate work is specialised enough that the homeowners who need it are spread thin across Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Schenectady counties in New York, Bennington County in Vermont, and Berkshire County in Massachusetts. We would rather drive to Bennington than tell someone with a failing slate roof to call around.

We hired Stephen to repair our deck, and he did such a great job that we also hired him to add a bathroom to our finished basement. He was communicative, flexible, and worked clean. We are elated with how it all turned out. Thank you for helping us love our home!

John was terrific replacing old wooden windows with new vinyl ones. They delivered on schedule and at the agreed price. They kept everything clean, which we really appreciated. Our plants are much more comfortable this winter without those breezes!

Why us

What you are actually buying

Three states, one crew

The same people who quote the job are on the roof doing it. Nothing gets handed to a sub you never met, and nothing gets lost between two companies blaming each other.

Metal and slate specialists

These are the two roofing materials with the least tolerance for a sloppy detail, and they are what we are known for. Everything else we do gets held to the standard those roofs set.

Fully insured

Fully insured on every job, across all six counties in New York, Vermont and Massachusetts, and familiar with what each building department wants to see before it signs off.

Materials that suit the winter

Specification is not a preference here. Snow load, ice damming and freeze and thaw decide the panel gauge, the fastener pattern and the coating. We spec for the mountain, not the catalogue.

Where we work

Six counties, three states

One base, a wide radius, and a genuine reason for it. Specialist roofing work does not cluster neatly inside one county line.

Questions

The things people ask first

We work across six counties in three states: Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Schenectady counties in New York, Bennington County in Vermont, and Berkshire County in Massachusetts. That runs from the Mohawk Valley up through Saratoga, east over the Hudson, across the Vermont line into ski country, and south through the Berkshires.

No. We come out, look at the actual condition of the roof or the space, and give you a written estimate at no cost and with no obligation. If we think the job does not need doing yet, we will tell you that too.

A properly installed standing seam roof will outlast the homeowner who paid for it. Fifty years is the conservative number in the Northeast, and the panels usually outlive the fasteners and sealants, which are serviceable. Asphalt in the same conditions gives you fifteen to twenty before the freeze and thaw cycle starts opening seams.

Usually, yes, and most contractors will not tell you that because a tear-off is the easier sale. If the slate itself is sound and the failure is in the flashing, the nails or a section of tile, that is a repair. We source matching salvaged slate, which is what makes the repair invisible on a historic home instead of a patch.

Yes. We handle permitting with the town or city, and it matters more here than most places, because we work under three different state codes. Massachusetts runs its own stretch code, Vermont enforces a stricter energy standard than New York, and several of the towns we work in add historic district review on top of all that.

Yes, fully insured, and we carry it on every job across New York, Vermont and Massachusetts. Ask us for the certificate before you sign anything, with us or with anyone else. A contractor who hesitates on that question has told you what you need to know.
