Refinished hardwood flooring in a remodeled Upstate New York home

Home Remodeling Contractors in Upstate New York

Kitchens, bathrooms, flooring and full interior renovations, run by one crew from demolition through the punch list.

In short

The thing that decides whether a remodel goes well is not the finishes, it is sequencing. One contractor holding the whole schedule means the tile setter is not waiting on the electrician who is waiting on an inspection nobody booked.

Remodeling goes wrong in the gaps between trades. The demo crew finishes and leaves, the plumber comes a week later, the inspector cannot get out until the following Thursday, and the whole thing stalls with your kitchen in boxes. Almost every horror story we hear from homeowners is a scheduling failure rather than a workmanship one.

We run interior work the same way we run a roof. One crew, one schedule, one person you call. That means we are honest about start dates rather than booking you in and disappearing, and it means when something is found behind a wall, and in houses of this age something usually is, you get told immediately with a price rather than discovering it on the final invoice.

The housing stock across our area shapes what these jobs turn into. A 1920s house in Schenectady or Troy will have knob and tube somewhere, plaster that does not like being disturbed, and framing that is not on any modern module. A Clifton Park build from the nineties has none of that but often has a layout worth opening up. We quote what is actually in front of us rather than a square footage rate.

Renovated kitchen interior in an Upstate New York home

What we handle

Interior work we take on

Kitchens

Full renovations and targeted updates. Cabinetry, counters, flooring, lighting and the coordination of plumbing and electrical that makes the difference between six weeks and four months.

Bathrooms

Complete gut renovations through to tub-to-shower conversions. Waterproofing done properly behind the tile, because that is the part nobody sees and the part that fails.

Flooring

Hardwood installation, sanding and refinishing, tile and engineered products. Refinishing original floors is frequently the highest return work in an older house.

Whole-home and structural changes

Opening up layouts, removing walls where the framing allows it, and full interior renovations. Anything load bearing gets engineered rather than guessed at.

How it runs

How a remodel runs

Walk the space and talk budget

Honestly, early. It saves everybody time to establish whether the project you have in mind and the number you have in mind are the same project.

Scope and written estimate

What is included, what is not, what the allowances are for fixtures and finishes. Ambiguity in a remodel scope becomes an argument later, so we would rather have the conversation now.

Permits and scheduling

We pull permits and book inspections. You get a realistic start date, not an optimistic one designed to hold the job.

Build, with the surprises surfaced

Demolition, rough-in, inspection, finish. When something turns up behind a wall you hear about it the same day with a price attached.

Punch list and handover

We walk it with you and write down everything that is not right, then fix it. The job is done when you say it is, not when the last invoice goes out.

Our work

Interior work

Why us

Why run your remodel through us

One crew, one schedule

The trades are coordinated by the people doing the work rather than handed between companies who each blame the last one for the delay.

We know old houses

Plaster, knob and tube, balloon framing and floors that are not level anywhere. Most of the housing stock here predates 1960 and it behaves accordingly.

Surprises get surfaced immediately

Opening a wall in a hundred year old house finds things. You hear about it that day, with a price, not at the end.

We hired Stephen to repair our deck, and he did such a great job that we also hired him to add a bathroom to our finished basement. He was communicative, flexible, and worked clean. We are elated with how it all turned out. Thank you for helping us love our home!

Questions

Remodeling questions

A bathroom is typically two to four weeks on site, a kitchen four to eight, assuming materials are on hand when we start. The single biggest cause of overrun is fixtures and cabinetry arriving late, which is why we push to have the long-lead items ordered before demolition rather than during it.

Usually yes for anything involving plumbing, electrical or structural change, and no for purely cosmetic work like flooring or paint. We handle the permit and the inspections. Requirements vary by town and Massachusetts is the strictest of the three states we work in.

For most single-room projects, yes. For a kitchen you will want a plan for cooking, because you will be without one for weeks rather than days. For a whole-home renovation it is usually better not to. We will tell you plainly which category yours falls into.

In writing, before the work happens. A change gets priced and agreed rather than absorbed and argued about later. This applies both to things you decide you want and to things we find behind a wall.

We help with layout and practical decisions and we will tell you when something will not work structurally or will cost far more than it is worth. For full interior design and detailed drawings we would point you at a designer and then build to their plan.
