Why local matters
Knowing the county is part of the specification
Snow load, frost depth and building code all change across our service area, and Rensselaer County is not the same problem as the county next to it. Footing depth, roof structure, fastener pattern and snow retention are decided by where a building actually sits, not by a standard applied everywhere.
The permitting matters too. New York sets the code, but the town enforces it, and what each building department wants to see differs. We handle the permit and the inspections as part of the job.

The Vermont and New York slate belt is close, and the nineteenth century farmhouses and mill-era village housing here were roofed from it. A lot of that original slate is still in service. It also means a lot of homeowners are being quoted full tear-offs for roofs that need flashing and fastener work, because few contractors will take slate on.
Yes, noticeably. Berlin, Grafton, Stephentown and Petersburgh sit high enough to take considerably more snow than the Hudson valley floor a few miles west. That changes fastener pattern, snow retention and sometimes the roofing material we would recommend in the first place.
Usually, through salvage. Colour, thickness and size all have to line up, and weathered salvaged tile matches an old roof far better than new stone, which sits noticeably brighter than its neighbours for years. If we cannot match yours properly we will tell you before starting.
Yes. Hoosick Falls, Valley Falls and Schaghticoke have mill-era housing stock with the problems that come with it: original trim worth saving, plaster that objects to being disturbed, and roofs that have been patched by several previous owners.
